Traxxas Stampede 2WD XL-5 VXL
Do you want something that’s race-ready yet still a great option for beginning model drivers or younger motorsports enthusiasts? If so, then you’re going to want the Stampede XL-5. It’s got a top speed of around 30 MPH measured in real rather than scale miles, so you can be sure that it’s going to offer a ton of real action without sacrificing a whole lot in terms of control.
In many ways, we consider the Traxxas Stampede line to be the original high-performance offload monster truck at the RC Superstore. Best of all, the stock performance figures of this vehicle can be upgraded through judicious use of aftermarket parts.
Traxxas Stampede 2WD Parts & Upgrades
While each of these models offers some serious scale horsepower, you’re eventually going to run into a situation where you might either want some replacement parts or you’re going to need to upgrade one of the underlying components. Perhaps you’ll want to start with a cooling fan or another component that includes comparable moving parts. Since these components rotate, you may want to keep a few extras on hand if you do any real hardcore driving. Motors themselves, however, are what most people are going to be looking into.
2WD Brushless Motors
Waterproof brushless motor assemblies are what makes the Stampede series so attractive. Motor brushes have to be periodically replaced on any design that makes use of them, but Stampede VXL brushless motor systems don’t require any such small parts to be installed. As a result, you can keep your vehicle running longer without having to worry about opening the physical motor housing and making adjustments. This is good news for anyone who wants to start investing in additional motors because they’re going to be seriously racing.
On top of a motor, you might want an extra battery.
Stampede LiPo Battery
Don’t get caught without the power you need to reach further destinations than you ever thought possible. Invest in an additional LiPo battery as well as NiMH/LiPo chargers so you can keep your vehicle out on the road longer. When your current pack runs down, swap it out for a fully charged one and then place it into this dock. It’ll convert mains line power into potential DC energy that your Traxxas model can use in its efficient LiPo batteries.
Stampede VXL
The Stampede VXL uses the Velineon brushless power system, which can push these trucks to over 65 MPH if you’re using LiPo power. Both the XL-5 and VXL trucks include a tri-mode speed controller that offers an optional training mode for those who are just learning to control a model that has this kind of performance. No matter what kind of driver you are, there’s something to appeal to you in these kits.
